Escape Hoods, as the name implies – are used to get out of a dangerous area. Not to stay and fight – but to get out. They have limited time for protection, so use it to get to a safe area. Escape Hoods are available from basic smoke protection all the way up to CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear) protection. The good thing about Escape Hoods are that they are designed to be very quick and easy to put on, they protect the entire head area, and usually one size fits all, (3 years old and up). The bad things about Escape Hoods are that they are a one-time use device and they do have limited shelf life (read:expiration dates) – usually 3 to 5 years. If you live or work in a high rise building, if you use a subway for transportation, or if you travel in an airplane frequently – you should seriously consider an escape hood.
